Forteto della Luja – Le Grive Monferrato Rosso – 2018

Forteto della Luja is a microscopic but historical reality, located in the village of Loazzolo, famous for being the birthplace of one of the smallest DOC wines of only 5 hectares. Yes, in this area bordering with the Langhe of Asti and Alba, a few kilometers from Canelli, are produced excellent sweet muscatels, left to dry, so much so that it was already known in Roman times. The winery instead was founded by the Scaglione family in the middle of the nineteenth century, who have always been cultivators of grapes, but only since the eighties thanks to Giancarlo Scaglione with the help of the famous vigneron Giacomo Bologna, the winery started to bottle and sell that sweet wine nectar so much to be recognized in the guides for the quality level. Moreover the winery has always been very attentive to the ecosystem and to preserve the territory, by building in the early 2000s the first winery in Piedmont to use photovoltaic solar energy and by creating a protected area by increasing the wooded area in the Loazzolo territory.
Le Grive is the first red wine of the winery produced with the local Barbera grape and the international Pinot Noir. The wine is aged for 10 months in barrique and has a good structure, very aromatic with high acidity as well as great body and shoulders. Perfect to drink young but also to age!
