Ferdinando Principiano – Barolo del Comune di Serralunga d’Alba – 2019

Rarely can you find a Barolo around with such drinkability! This is absolutely the strong point of Principiano’s style, thanks to its sensitivity regarding climate change, the harvest is brought forward for a production of Barolos with low alcohol content, good structure and above all freshness and longevity. In this case we are talking about the winery’s entry level Barolo where young vines from the Serralunga commune are used, where the soils are rich in limestone, giving the wines well persistent and dry tannins. Barolo almost from another era, where finesse and tannin create a perfect marriage.

Description

Ferdinando Principiano is a true winemaker! Very much in love with his vineyards, his are genuine and unique wines. The winery is located in Monforte d’Alba, in the heart of the Barolo area, and since 1993 with all his passion he decided to take over the family business producing excellent wines, but especially Baroli. After experimenting with the use of barriques and a modernist technique, from the mid-2000s he completely changed his style by prioritizing the care of the vines without the use of herbicides, and even in the winery the approach began to be traditional and classic: the barriques were replaced with large oak barrels, pressing is even done with the feet, and only indigenous yeasts are used.
As Ferdinando says, his philosophy is not to stress the plant but to accompany and care for it without being too interventionist. His are clean, pleasant wines with a great freshness this thanks to his style that has now become recognizable and unique!
His interpretations of barolos are incredible, a style all his own, where fragrance and drinkability prevail, despite the fact that they are great structured wines from two fantastic cru: La Ravera di Monforte and Boscareto di Serralunga d’Alba.
