Elvio Cogno – Barolo Riserva Ravera vigna Elena – 2013

Elvio Cogno is now one of the most renowned wineries for the production of Barolo, but the road has not been so easy. Born in 1936 with the great dream of producing great Barolos, but only after years of experience and collaboration with other wineries, in the 1980s he managed to buy a farmhouse in Novello right above the Ravera vineyard. Finally, in the 1990s, thanks also to the arrival of his daughter Nadia and brother-in-law Walter, the first Barolo label “Ravera”, one of the most important crus in the municipality of Novello, was released. The philosophy of the company is absolutely traditional, with the exclusive use of large oak barrels and respect for the land, enhancing the characteristics of the soil in the wines, creating austere wines with a great evolutionary capacity over time.
The Barolo Riserva Ravera Vigna Elena is the wine that most represents the winery, in fact the label was designed by her daughter Elena when she was only 3 years old. Produced only in the best vintages, only the rare nebbiolo Rosè clone is used, famous for giving wines much more fragrant and delicate but discharged in color. The wine undergoes a traditional aging of 36 months in large oak barrels plus another 2 years in the bottle. A Mr. Barolo.
In the 2013 vintage the wine shows intense aromas of wild rose and raspberry and spicy notes, in the mouth it has a beautiful structure, both powerful and refined.
