Elio Altare – Barolo Arborina – 2015

At the turn of the 1980s and early 1990s, a group of young producers from the Langhe began a real revolution, proposing a new way of producing Barolo, thus a series of wines were born that were totally detached from the traditional model: impeccable from the point of technical point of view, based on a pushed research of fruit concentration, on the smoothness of the tannins, on short macerations and on a consistent contribution of oak from small barrels. Elio Altare, founder producer of this movement, after an enlightening trip for him, returned to Italy and cut all the old large barrels in the cellar with the chainsaw to insert the new French barriques, he was thus disinherited by his father! Charismatic, courageous, enterprising man guided by his great passion for wine and love for the land he began the search for excellence, which he expresses through his elegant and balanced wines. The wines are simple and natural, biodynamics or other similar philosophies are not applied, the vine is simply grown based on the experience acquired and handed down for tens of generations.
Arborina, a cru in the municipality of La Morra, thanks to the thirty-year commitment of a group of producers among which the name of Elio Altare stands out, this mention has earned a fair reputation among Barolo enthusiasts. The wines that come from here favor fruit and freshness without obviously lacking structure, Elio Altare manages to best represent this MGA, surprising us every year with impeccable wines!
