Claudio Alario – Barolo Sorano – 2017

Barolo “Sorano” is the latest wine produced by Alario. The same cru is located under the commune of Serralunga and enjoys a south-west exposure, with slightly leaner soils compared to the southern part of the village, being part of the Diano sandstone formation, a geological area formed more than 10 million years ago. Thanks to these soils richer in clay than in limestone, the wine is softer, with less dry and bitter tannins. Alario was able to interpret perfectly this parcel by aging it for 24 months in barrique, plus 12 months in large casks and 6 months in bottle. The result is a Mr. Barolo, with aromas of tobacco, ripe cherry, in the mouth is full, slightly tannic, but with a persistent and delicate finish. A perfect Barolo to age, but very fun to drink now.

Description

The winery was established in 1900 in Diano d’Alba, where Alario family has been dedicating to the care and cultivation of vine for three generations. At the beginning grapes were exclusively destined to be sold but the real turning point came in 1988 when Claudio joined the winery and he will contribute to the development of vineyards and will start bottling Dolcetto, a grape variety which represents the historical identity of the winery. The winery slowly grew and expanded to the production of Barbera and Nebbiolo wines. The yields in the vineyard are low in order to guarantee quality to their wines, innovation and tradition are characteristics we find in their wines.
