Cigliuti – Langhe Nebbiolo – 2020

The Langhe Nebbiolo comes from the single vineyard Bricco di Neive, one of the oldest geological formations in the entire Barbaresco area, here the soils are sandy-limestone giving minerality and astringency to the Nebbiolo. The wine underwent vinification in steel tanks and aging in oak barrels for almost a year. It comes across as a gritty wine with silky but characterful tannins and aromas of rose and violet.

Description

The Cigliuti family has been making wine since the 1930s in the Serraboella area in the commune of Neive, but only since the 1960s have the first bottles of Barbaresco been bottled and sold. The qualitative leap of the winery can be seen with the entrance of Renato, born in 1938, since his childhood he worked in the vineyards, he was among the first to have a qualitative production mentality, selecting and thinning the bunches of grapes, in a historical moment where it was not at all typical to throw away or waste products. The winery today is still run by Renato, his wife Dina and two daughters, a true family situation, where they are the first to control every step from the vineyard to the cellar always with the same philosophy: produce little but well! The winery’s vineyards are mostly located in the Serraboella cru and the Bricco di Neive, a rather complex area being one of the oldest geologically in the Barbaresco area with soils rich in limestone.
