Cavallotto – Barolo Riserva Vignolo – 2010

The Cavallotto winery is rich in history. It is located in Castiglione Falletto, and is one of the rare cases to be wholly owner of the Bricco Boschis cru, one of the most famous in the area.
The history of this vineyard began in the mid-1800s, precisely in conjunction with the birth of Barolo wine, thanks to the Marquise Juliette Colbert Falletti of Barolo who entrusted the work of the vineyard to Giuseppe Boschis, since then the hill has taken the name Bricco Boschis. In 1928 the entire property was purchased by Giacomo Cavallotto, creating the Bricco Boschis Estate.
From the 1940s the Cavallotto family began to vinify their own grapes, but only from the 1960s will the name of the Bricco Boschis vineyard be mentioned in their Barolo.
The story continues from generation to generation to the present day, where Alfio, Giuseppe and Laura maintain the family tradition and the qualitative continuity of the wines.
The cellar is enveloped in a super traditional aura, the aging rooms are underground, covered by tuff at a constant temperature of 15 degrees, and only large barrels are used for the aging of wines, especially for Barolos.
The value of this estate, which despite owning an entire vineyard with a beautiful location from Nebbiolo da Barolo (southwest), also produces minor wines such as Barbera, Dolcetto, Freisa and Langhe Nebbiolo. Barolos, on the other hand, are produced only in the best vintages, precisely to enhance the quality, fame and austerity that this wine brings with it.
Even in the vineyard, maximum respect for the land and plants, so much so that they were the first in the Langa to focus on non-interventionist agriculture, up to being certified organic.
Wines of class, of tradition, complex, without frills, but with a great evolutionary capacity. If you want to drink Cavallotto wines, don’t be in a hurry… .they are wines of other times!
The Barolo Riserva Vignolo comes from the vineyard of the same name, also located in the municipality of Castiglione Falletto, right in front of the Bricco Boschis cru, with a south-west exposure. The soils in this parcel are more tending to sands, giving slightly softer Barolo more sweet, fruity and floral. This Barolo comes out only in the reserve version, that is, it ages for 5 years in oak barrels plus a year in the bottle. An austere, structured wine of other times, but with a delicacy and freshness that gives a nice drink even when the wine is young.
In the 2010 vintage there is a very fresh wine, with more balsamic notes and structured tannins. A majestic wine from one of the best vintages of recent times!
