Cascina Fontana – Barolo DOCG – 2017

Barolo comes from three different vineyards: Villero and Mariondino in Castiglione Falletto and Giachini in La Morra, all beautiful cru, but most of all famous for having sandy soils, giving elegance to the wines. This can be defined as a real classic Barolo, less than 10000 bottles produced, it is aged for 24 months in large oak casks plus one year in cement and one year in bottle. A beautiful Barolo to drink, which plays just on aromas and elegance, but with a great skeleton and structure which allows it to keep for a long time.

Description

Cascina Fontana represents the true essence of the Langa of Barolo. This is a typical winery, simple, but with ideas well founded on tradition and values. The winery was established in 1994, when winemaker Mario Fontana, after an experience as a farmer in the family business, decided to change his way and create his own small business with his ideas about making wine, but most of all Barolo. The winery is located in Perno, a small village in the commune of Monforte d’Alba, a little known area, a niche area, but which actually produces full bodied and structured wines, thanks to its privileged position and soils rich in blue marl.
Mario’s philosophy is very humble…as he himself says, he simply followed his grandfather’s teachings, he did not change anything about winemaking or the way of working in the vineyard. He manages only 5 hectares between the communes of Castiglione Falletto, La Morra and Sinio, where he produces the most typical wines of Langa: Dolcetto, Barbera, Nebbiolo and Barolo. In the winery you cannot imagine anything! There are only cement tanks, medium-large oak casks for aging and steel tanks for spontaneous fermentation without temperature control. Even in the vineyard, Mario tries to work as cleanly as possible, without stressing the plant too much. The characteristic which distinguishes Cascina Fontana’s wines is freshness and aromatic intensity..they are very pleasing to drink, not too hard, but thanks to this high acidity they are wines which have a high potential over time.
