Cascina Bongiovanni – Barolo Pernanno – 2016

Cascina Bongiovanni, is a small reality of Langa, located in Castiglione Falletto, in the center of the Barolo appellation, manages only 7 hectares of vineyard. The winery was founded by Giovanni Bongiovanni in 1950, and today we find his grandson Davide Mozzone to continue the family traditions. The philosophy of the farm is to produce genuine wines, paying attention to every detail both in the vineyard and in the cellar, using the same principles of organic agriculture with even some nuances of biodynamics such as the use of green manure. The aim is to produce real, territorial wines, but as clean as possible.
Very few bottles of different wines are produced in the cellar such as Arneis, Dolcetto, Barbera and Nebbiolo, but the real protagonist is undoubtedly Barolo. The vineyards for the production of Barolo are mainly located in Castiglione Falletto, in the Pernanno vineyard, and a small part also in the municipality of Diano d’alba and Serralunga d’Alba.
Barolo Pernanno comes from the cru of the same name, only 5000 bottles in just under 2 hectares. The peculiarity of this vineyard is that it has soils rich in sand and a south-east exposure, giving the Nebbioli both character and fresh sensations. In this case the wine is aged for 2 years in small barrels and the remaining two years in the bottle. A wine with a great grit, very pleasant with a beautiful freshness typical of this vineyard.
