Burlotto – Verduno Pelaverga – 2025
Pelaverga is a native grape variety closely linked to the municipality of Verduno, so much so that it boasts one of the smallest DOCs in Italy. This wine’s defining characteristic is the aroma of black pepper on the nose, a refreshing palate, and a light drinkability. In this case, the wine was vinified at a controlled temperature in wooden vats and stainless steel tanks, and then aged in stainless steel. A light red with spicy aromas, it’s smooth and fresh on the palate.

Description
The Burlotto winery is located in the center of the small town of Verduno, a cooler area north of the Barolo production zone, rich in sandy and mineral soils, renowned for lending great elegance and refinement to Nebbiolo grapes for Barolo. The town of Verduno is probably not one of the best-known or renowned in the Langhe, nor is it a place of passage, but perhaps few know that there is a great deal of history linked to this small village. It was in the cellars of the Castle of the Royal House of Savoy that the Nebbiolo that later became Barolo was first vinified. Another illustrious figure from Verduno was Giovanni Battista Burlotto, who founded the eponymous winery in 1850, contributing to the fame of Barolo wine. Its Nebbiolo wines won numerous medals, but the winery is best remembered for being the only one to supply the Duke of Abruzzo on his famous Arctic expedition to the North Pole.
The story continues today with the sixth generation, led by Fabio, who graduated with honors in oenology and continues to produce wines with the same passion and philosophy as his family. The winery now owns 15 hectares, 12 of which are in the municipality of Verduno, vinified primarily with Nebbiolo for Barolo in the renowned Monvigliero vineyard. Also of note, since the 1970s the family has owned less than one hectare in the most famous Barolo vineyard: Cannubi. In short, the Burlotto family possesses a historic heritage. Highly sought-after wines, yet crafted with the same humility and tradition as in the past.
