Burlotto – Barolo DOCG – 2014

The Burlotto winery is located in the center of the small town of Verduno, a cooler area north of the Barolo production area, rich in sandy and mineral soils, famous for giving great elegance and refinement to Barolo nebbioli. Probably the village of Verduno is not one of the best known or most renowned in the Langa, it is not a place of passage! But perhaps few know that linked to this small village there is a lot of history! Nebbiolo, which later became Barolo, was vinified for the first times in the cellars of the castle of the royal Savoy family. Another illustrious figure of Verduno was Giovanni Battista Burlotto, who in 1850 founded the homonymous winery, contributing precisely to the fame of Barolo wine. There were numerous medals recognized for its Nebbioli, but the winery is remembered above all for being the only one to supply the Duke of Abruzzo in the famous Arctic expedition to the North Pole.
The story continues today with the sixth generation, led by Fabio, who graduated with 110 honors in enology, continues to produce wines with the same passion and philosophy as his family. Today the winery has 15 hectares of property, of which 12 in the municipality of Verduno vinified mainly in Nebbiolo da Barolo in the celebrated Monvigliero vineyard. Furthermore, the family has owned less than one hectare of the most famous Barolo vineyard since the 1970s: Cannubi. In short, a historical heritage that surrounds the Burlotto family. Wines sought after, but produced with the same humility and tradition of the past.
This Barolo is the first wine of the winery, produced with the assembly of different owned vineyards with the aim of paying homage to the real Barolo! (Barolo is born from the assembly of several vineyards) Aging for 10 months in small barrels plus the remaining 20 in large oak barrels, plus six months in the bottle. A balanced, perfect, very fragrant wine, full in the mouth, with refined tannins and a very long persistence and freshness given by this 2014 vintage. A true old School Barolo.
