Brovia – Barolo Rocche di Castiglione – 2018

One of their niche selection Baroli, the Rocche di Castiglione has won the hearts of many wine lovers in an impressive way. Produced with grapes exclusively from the Cru of Rocche di Castiglione in the commune of Castiglione Falletto, the 46 year old vineyards in a clayey terroir with excellent southern exposure give wines of unparalleled refinement. Low yields and careful selection of the grapes, they are vinified in steel vats for 15/20 days and then undergo malolactic fermentation and refinement in large oak casks for 24 months and 24 months in the bottle, without filtration. The result is an intense and juicy Barolo, with an intoxicating aromatic texture and hints of ripe fruit and spice. It is enveloping on the palate with subtle tannins of rare finesse.

Description

The Brovia winery was founded by grandfather Giacinto in 1863 in Castiglione Falletto, the heart of the Barolo production area, and after a succession of generations, today we find Elena and her Spanish husband Alessandro Sanchez carrying on the name of this historic winery. The style is traditional, but with a modern and avant-garde touch: they use medium-large French oak barrels for ageing, and organic farming in the vineyard. The winery owns and produces some of the best crus in the Barolo area, such as the Grand Cru Villero in Castiglione Falletto, famous for producing silky Barolos of unparalleled elegance, the Rocche in Castiglione Falletto, famous for producing wines that are both elegant and full of character, the Brea Ca’ Mia, the only vineyard in Serralunga d’Alba with limestone soils, and the Garblet sue in Castiglione Falletto. The peculiarity of Brovia’s wines is the constant elegance and refinement… their wines are never too hard and tannic, but silky and pleasant to drink even when young.
