Azelia – Barolo Bricco Fiasco – 2009
Winery founded in 1920 in Castiglione Falletto, now the company owns 16 hectares but continues to be family-run. Wine is still made the “old way”, very low yields from old vines and careful work in the vineyard, mainly large barrels and maximum respect for aging times, the wines are released on the market only when they are ready. Their vineyards are located between the municipalities of Castiglione Falletto and Serralunga d’Alba, two villages so close, but completely different for the type of soil: in the first it is rich in sands giving finesse and aromas to the wine, the second has limestone and blue marl giving harder and more tannic wines.
Fiasco, a small appellation but of great importance in the municipality of Castiglione Falletto, right in the highest and best exposed part of the Azelia winery has been producing Barolo Bricco Fiasco since 1978. Thanks to plants with an average age of 85 years, soils with a marly structure and the ten-year experience of the producer, the wine obtained is superb, elegance and harmony are the main characteristics of this Barolo. Bricco Fiasco manages to best represent the true territoriality of Castiglione Falletto, an extremely expressive red.
