Virna – Barolo Riserva – 2016
Barolo Riserva di Virna is produced only in some vintages, I would say the best ones and 2016 is absolutely one of them because of the great longevity it can give to wines. For this wine are used the most beautiful vineyards of Sarmassa and Cannubi cru. Vineyards with two different souls, Sarmassa gives balsamic and red fruit aromas and a great structure, Cannubi finer and more intense aromas accompanied with a straighter and longer persistence in the mouth. The wine was aged for 24 months in tonneaux and large casks as well as for 4 years in steel tanks and bottles. A wine with great structure along with elegance. I think this is one of the bottles to absolutely have. Rare and valuable.

Description
Virna Borgogno is a real wine producer! First woman to get a degree in enology in 1988 in Italy, she decided to follow the footsteps of her father Enrico and personally cultivate the vineyard and create wines, but above all great Baroli. Hers is a historical winery and it is located in the famous town of Barolo, where she vinifies only 10 hectares between the communes of Barolo, Novello and Monforte….but above all she cultivates vineyard plots among the best ones of the appellation such as the renowned Cannubi, Sarmassa and Preda.
Virna’s style fully identifies her tough character! She cultivates the vineyard as a little gem, and in the winery she tries to maintain a traditional style but with a slightly modern touch. She likes to create territorial wines, but at the same time drinkable, not too hard!
