Francesco Rinaldi e Figli – Barolo Cannubi – 2018

Their Barolo Cannubi is a super old school wine. It comes from the cru of the same name, the most renowned of the whole Barolo area, so much so that it was already mentioned on the label in 1700. In this case, the wine is made from vines aged between 55 and 30 years old, vinified in used 5000 liter oak barrels for 30 months, plus one year in the bottle. The 2017 was a slightly more complex and dry vintage, where the wines tended to be with more character and body. Being a great vineyard, and especially thanks to the winery’s 100 years of agricultural experience, the end result was still extraordinary. Absolutely not simple or easy to drink, but to keep and savor calmly in a few years. Black pepper and ripe fruit, dry tannins and great acidity are the key words for this wine.

Description

One of those wineries that best represents the territory of Langa, born in 1870, they put on the market the first bottle of Barolo in 1906!
It is fantastic to enter their winery which is located on the famous Cannubi hill and still breathe that ancient scent, here they use only big casks, as Piedmontese tradition requires, fermentations are long and wines are never bottled before August.
They have vineyards in the communes of La Morra, Barolo and Castiglione Falletto where there are very different soils and the winery is able to produce wines which represent the best of the territory.
