Ballot Millot – Bourgogne Chardonnay – 2019
The most famous white grape in the world for its class and innate delicacy, it is the mainstay of the production where privileged areas produce unique and unmistakable wines. The grapes come from plots of Meursault and Chassagne Montrachet, with 45-year-old vines growing in a clay/limestone terroir where their yields are controlled from the first fruits. Harvested by hand, the grapes are fermented whole cluster with indigenous yeasts in barriques, which then undergo malolactic fermentation and ageing for 12 months. The result is a wine with splendid aromas, from fruit to notes of yeast, which is light but immediate on the palate with great ageing potential.

Description
Great stories wrapped up in small wineries, sometimes it is hard to believe, but in France it is a normal reality to which Domaine Ballot Millot belongs. Sources speak of them since 1630, always family-run, and they have now reached the 16th generation when Philippe Ballot passed the business on to his son Charles in the early 2000s after overseas experience in wineries in New Zealand and California. Having grown up and literally lived in contact with wine, he gradually learned the craft of winemaking and made important innovations in ideas and style, changing the face of the estate. Located in Burgundy on the Cote de Beaune in the village of Meursault, it has the privilege of extending over 10 hectares of the region’s most renowned crus, 8 of which are planted with Chardonnay at Meursault and Chassagne Montrachet and 2 with Pinot Noir, divided between Pommard, Volnay and Beaune. A production of 60000 bottles per year, born from a thoughtful respect for the environment, without the use of chemicals but only natural organic elements in which the vines are the jewels to obtain grapes of rigorous quality. A mix of tradition and modernity, from manual harvesting to delicate, non-invasive vinification through modern techniques where the use of used barrels is predominant. Annual challenges to obtain among the world’s finest wines fruit of great artistic inspiration, in which there is no room for monotony.
