Monteraponi – Baron’Ugo Toscana Rosso Igt – 2013
Monteraponi is one of the reference wineries of Chianti Classico. A small medieval village located in Radda in Chianti, it perfectly preserves the old walls which belonged to Count Ugo Marchese, governor of Tuscany at the end of the tenth century. Since the 1970’s the winery is in the hands of Michele Braganti, where he manages 200 hectares divided between olive groves and 12 hectares of vineyards. In the last decade the winery managed to totally convert to organic farming. Vineyards are located in an amphitheater completely exposed to south, sheltered by woods from cold winds, where they enjoy a dry and mild climate. Grapes are carefully selected, and even in the cellar there are concrete tanks for spontaneous fermentation without temperature control, thanks to the constant temperature of the thick old walls.
Monteraponi’s wines are famous for their cleanliness, elegance and refinement. Complex wines which can give excellent results over time. Mythical wines without time.
Baron Ugo Toscana IGT is produced only in the best vintages, and represents the top wine of the winery. Vineyards of almost 50 years old located on the highest part of the hill at 570 meters of altitude, cultivated with Sangiovese, Colorino and Canaiolo grapes. The wine undergoes a spontaneous fermentation in vitrified cement tanks, plus an aging of 36 months in large oval wooden barrels, 3 months in cement tanks and 6 months in bottle. Refined, earthy, full, delicate and persuasive are the characteristics for this wonderful wine. Aristocratic.
