Weingut Knoll – Smaragd Ried Schütt Riesling – 2016
Wachau, Austria, rich mosaic of different soils and rocks, and meeting point of southern and northern climates, here the plants are grown on spurs and small terraces reachable by narrow paths, in this area since 1825 the Knoll family has been producing wines recognized among the best in the world. Historic company, among the most important in Europe, lovers of tradition and details for this reason their surprisingly fine wines are the mirror of the terroir.
15 hectares of property cultivated mainly with Riesling Renano and Gruner Veltliner, in the vineyard the work is maniacal and in the cellar the vinifications and refinements are traditional to ensure that the grapes express all their characteristics. Schutt, a vineyard dating back to 1200 formed thanks to the accumulation of debris, the sandy and stony soil is rich in gneiss (similar to granite). The best grapes are harvested from this vineyard to produce a rich, deep, fragrant and mineral wine with great structure. A Riesling that will express its potential after years and decades, seeing is believing!
