Virna – Langhe Nebbiolo “il” – 2022

One of the most interesting Nebbiolos to discover and drink in Barolo is Virna’s, not only because she uses only vineyards in the commune but possesses a wonderful personality in drinking worthy of this grape. She calls it “THE” to emphasize its importance in this simple version, she selects the best bunches which she vinifies in steel tanks for 7-8 days making use of periodic pumping over so as to obtain an excellent extraction of both fragrance and color, ageing i performs in used tonneaux for at least 12 months before bottling. It gives off a grit to spare thanks to the great work done, very heady hints of red fruit that blend with acidity and firm, rough tannins giving a soft sensation amplified in total. Highly recommended!

Description

Virna Borgogno is a true winemaker! The first woman to graduate in oenology in 1988 in Italy, she decided to follow in her father Enrico’s footsteps and personally cultivate the vineyard and create wines, but especially great Baroli. Hers is a historic winery and is located right in the famous town of Barolo, where she vinifies only 10 hectares between the municipalities of Barolo, Novello and Monforte….but above all she cultivates vineyard plots among the best in the appellation such as the renowned Cannubi, Sarmassa and Preda.
Virna’s style fully identifies her character so badass! She cultivates the vineyard like a little gem, and in the winery she tries to maintain a traditional style but with a slightly modern twist. She likes to create wines that are territorial, but at the same time drinkable, not too hard!
