Roberto Voerzio – Barolo Brunate – 2013
Roberto Voerzio, an icon of avant-garde viticulture in the Langhe. His style is unique, his love for wine and the land have led him to produce great wines. The facts are clear, 8000 vines per hectare, super selection of the bunches, aggressive thinning, 500 grams of grapes per plant (traditionally Piedmontese winemakers harvest about 2 kilograms). The work in the vineyards is more than maniacal, his plants are immediately recognizable by their cleanliness and order, and the philosophy of using only organic products and manure for the wellness of the vines does not go unnoticed.
He founded his winery in the 1980’s by buying the best vineyards with the most beautiful expositions, producing limited quantities for each cru with an amazing and unparalleled power and structure.
Brunate, La Serra, Cerequio, Rocche dell’Annunziata and Fossati are the homonymous vineyards where he vinifies the various cru, all located in La Morra and always considered the most prestigious ones for the quality of their grapes.
Barolo Brunate is the one which probably expresses the most character among Voerzio’s wines. Brunate vineyard is absolutely considered as one of the most important ones in the whole DOCG Barolo area, thanks to its southern exposure and to the rich clay soils, giving wines with more structure, shoulders and persistence than the typical wines of La Morra. Less than 4000 bottles produced, this vine expresses strength and all the austerity of Nebbiolo. In 2013 you find a full, opulent wine. Great structure and aging ability thanks to this fantastic vintage, considered one of the best of the last 20 years.
