Prunotto – Barolo Riserva Bussia Vigna Colonnello – 2013

Colonello is one of the most interesting mentions of the single vineyard Bussia di Monforte, located in the central ridge of Bussia soprana, it enjoys a perfect exposure of full south/west. The soils in this area are of medium texture rich in red clays, limestone and sand giving Nebbiolo with good structure and tertiary aromas. From about one hectare of vineyard, the Prunotto winery produces Barolo Riserva, where the wine ages for 18 months in large wooden barrels in addition to resting for 24 months in steel tanks and the same number in the bottle. Description

Prunotto one of the best known names in Langa and beyond, we are talking about the early twentieth century when Alfredo Prunotto decided to acquire together with his wife the Cantina Sociale giving it their own name. Thanks to their love for their homeland and great passion for their work, the young couple became very quickly known all over the world for the quality of their wines. In 1956 Alfredo decided to retire from the business and sold the winery to his wine-making friend, Beppe Colla, who immediately began buying vineyards in the areas most suited for the production of Barolo and Barbera. Since the early nineties the winery has been acquired by the Antinori family and today the hectares under vine are more than 50 scattered between Langhe and Monferrato, the assets grow but the style of making wine does not change, maintaining the excellent level of quality desired by Alfredo Prunotto. The work in the winery is marked by constant research and experimentation, with the continuous evaluation of the ways and times for the care of the vines and the production of each individual wine, respecting its characteristics and enhancing its best potential. Prunotto has invested in the qualitative development of the vineyard by using rootstocks and clones that are best suited to each individual plot.
