Poggio di Sotto – Brunello di Montalcino – 2009
We are at an altitude of 400 meters, south-east side of Montalcino, in 1989, the Poggio di Sotto estate was born, a recent reality but born from the true love of Piero Palmucci for wine, a single word to describe the philosophy of this great man: The terroir. Its wines were a surprise from the very beginning, those wines that when you drink them you are moved by the many emotions that assail you!
Obviously the grape that is the protagonist is Sangiovese where it is grown in a natural way, yields never exceed 50 quintals per hectare and indigenous yeasts are used in the cellar to obtain an elegant, refined and sober nectar.
Since 2011, the Poggio di Sotto estate has been part of the ColleMassari company, consisting of three wineries, boasts 1500 hectares in Tuscany and is the largest organic company in Europe.
We are in Castelnuovo dell’Abate, vineyards with different exposures, the yields per hectare do not exceed 35 quintals, the grapes are harvested by hand and taken to the cellar where the wine obtained rests for 40 months in large oak barrels and then 12 months in bottle. Finally, after five long years, the wine that the Poggio di Sotto estate puts on the market will surprise us with its unique and inimitable style.
In a fairly complex year we can see the skill of some large companies in being able to maintain a very high quality level. In 2009, Tenuta Poggio Di Sotto gives us an enveloping wine, with good finesse, softness and above all great balance.
