Paolo Scavino – Barolo Prapò – 2019

The Prapo’ vineyard in Serralunga d’Alba is among the latest acquired by the Scavino family in 2008, one of the most important plots in the area because of the great longevity of its wines. Totally facing south with limestone matrix soils, the vines are between 20 and 30 years old where meticulous grape selection is practiced. Vinification, alcoholic and malolactic, is carried out in temperature-controlled steel tanks while aging takes place 12 months in barriques and 12 months in large barrels. Lots of curiosity and anticipation for future aging, the bouquet is of great breadth between ripe red fruit and balsamic notes, on the palate it has good structure, flavor strength and persistent tannic texture.

Description

Among the most internationally renowned names for the production of the historic Barolo wine, one could not miss Paolo Scavino. The farm was founded in 1921, in Castiglione Falletto, by Lorenzo Scavino and his son Paolo, who began cultivating the famous local varieties such as Dolcetto, Barbera and Nebbiolo. But it was with the entry of Enrico Scavino that the valorization of Nebbiolo began, differentiating the areas where the highest quality of the grape was noted by purchasing parcels in other municipalities of the Barolo area, in the most vocated Cru such as Monvigliero, Cannubi, Bussia, and Rocche dell’Annunziata. Starting in 1978, it was decided to vinify the Cru separately, where Bric del Fiasc became the winery’s first single vineyard because from the soils composed of sand and fossil marl, called Tov, the most valuable grapes stood out. To date with 32 hectares divided into 8 communes, we breathe a tradition handed down in the vineyards for decades, arrived at the 4th generation with the idea of a viticulture superior to enology, of a devotion to work with the aim of achieving the interpretation and purity of the territorial essence. Committed to a production of absolute quality, the use of chemical elements in the environment and work in the cellar has been reduced, where the use mainly of barriques in winemaking have made it a pioneer of this style. Care and Passion are the pillars of one of the most renowned and inspired realities of the Piedmontese wine scene.
