Paitin – Barbaresco Serraboella Sorì Paitin – 2017
The Paitin winery famous for its barbaresques, is a family situation with 2 centuries of history. The company is located in Neive precisely above the Serraboella vineyard, in the Bricco di Neive area, and has been owned by the Pasquero Elia family since the mid-1800s.
Theirs is a very traditional philosophy: maximum care in the vineyards, the interventions in the vineyard are only based on copper and sulfur, long fermentations and refinements only in large barrels. Since 2015 there has even been a focus on organic farming.
With the Serraboella vineyard, the family produces three different Barbareschi: one with the youngest plants, one with the part best exposed to the sun (sorì), and one with the oldest plants … less than 10,000 bottles of each wine are produced ..but theirs are great wines .. very austere! This is due to the particular microclimate of the Serraboella vineyard. It is considered one of the areas with older limestone-based soils, thus giving harder and more complex nebbioli, which obviously however have a higher capacity for evolution.
The Barbaresco Sorì Paitin comes from the best exposed part of the Serraboella vineyard, with an average of 50 years of vines. About 8000 bottles are produced. The wine is aged for almost 2 years in large wooden barrels, plus a year in the bottle.
This is not the classic Barbaresco, it has enormous potential, it is the best in years! Very fragrant on the nose, but with vertical tannins in the mouth.
