Luigi Pira – Barolo Margheria – 2015

The Pira Luigi winery is located in Serralunga d’Alba, an area renowned for the power of the Barolos.
Until the 1990s, the family sold grapes, but things changed with the arrival of Luigi’s son, Giampaolo. He decided to produce great wines, but above all Baroli, thanks also to the potential of his own vineyards, considered among the most famous in the entire Langa … such as the renowned Vignarionda, Marenca and Margheria.
He’s Barolos are tough, hard, spicy and above all tannic! This is thanks to the rocky limestone soils of the Serralunga area. He tries to make clean and representative wines, precisely to enhance each specific characteristic that each vineyard gives.
The Barolo Margheria comes from the vineyard of the same name, located almost entirely to the south, overlooking the open land right in front of the village of Serralunga. One of the most important and coveted crus of Barolo producers, famous for giving austere wines but at the same time with great finesse and freshness. The Margheria di Pira fully reflects the characteristics of this vineyard, without forgetting its slightly modern style that gives it that extra character. Liquorice, straight vertical but persistent tannins and great freshness you will find in this wine!
In the 2015 vintage the wine is slightly more greedy and ready to enjoy! Obviously, great capacity over time.
