Giulia Negri – Barolo Serradenari – 2020

In the expansive hilly landscape of the Langhe, the Serradenari vineyard is considered one of the highest points in the region reaching over 500 meters in altitude, a true “Roof” where fresh and pleasant wines are produced. This Barolo comes from the Cru of the same name; it is a vineyard with mainly sandy soils that enjoys a considerable temperature range, unique in the commune of La Morra, where the 30-year-old plants are all exposed to the southwest. Winemaking takes place as in the past, that is, spontaneous fermentations using 60 HL truncated conical wooden vats with 45-day macerations followed by a 30-month aging in 25 HL Austrian oak barrels. Its most representative label and in demand by the public, a Barolo of great freshness typical of the area of origin, fabulous in hints of red fruit at times spicy that demonstrates in the drink good body and silky tannins of beautiful persistence.

Description

We are faced with tradition embracing the contemporary, if we talk about Giulia Negri we are naming one of the most promising and daring young people of the Langa. Her story all takes place in the commune of La Morra at the locality of Serradenari where both the vineyards and the winery are located in one of the highest points of the Barolo DOCG distributed in about 6 hectares. Heir to an important family active in politics and writing, after spending her youth between Rome and Milan, after graduating she decided to change her life by returning to her Langa origins. Her passion for wine immediately overwhelmed her; she founded everything from scratch in an old farmhouse she owned and her great curiosity led her to cultivate the Nebbiolo, Pinot Noir and Chardonnay varieties. She was a “garagist” producer in her own right, full freedom in style and without dogma with a desire to convey her ideas through her wines with a purely artisanal imprint that today are among the most sought-after in the area. A non-interventionist philosophy of absolute preservation of the ecosystem with hectares of woods famous for guarding the prized truffles while guaranteeing diversity and sanity in the vineyards, while in the cellar the work remains faithful in the fullness of tradition with long macerations and the use of large barrels. A current of thought her very much inspired by what were the “Barolo Boys” who seek not change but the novelty of an all-female return to the past by rediscovering precious secrets with the bold mindset of a “BaroloGirl” with definite ideas.
