Giulia Negri – Barolo La Tartufaia – 2020
A Barolo born as for so many producers nowadays with the intention of letting the territory express itself through the blending of plots in a purely classical profile, “Tartufaia” for her is to transmit Langa scents in her own wine from vineyards immersed in the paradise of truffles. Several vineyards located in La Morra in the Serradenari and Brunate areas around 500 meters where the soils are rich in sand and clay layers, all spontaneous fermentation and 40-day maceration in 60 HL truncated wooden vats followed by 24-month aging in 25 HL Austrian oak barrels. Sublime result reflecting the identity of its provenance, very elegant in the hints of spice and woody notes where on the palate there are remarkable tannins and intense acidity very enveloping and silky on the finish. Excellent with tajarin with truffles, what do you say?

Description
We are faced with tradition embracing the contemporary, if we talk about Giulia Negri we are naming one of the most promising and daring young people of the Langa. Her story all takes place in the commune of La Morra at the locality of Serradenari where both the vineyards and the winery are located in one of the highest points of the Barolo DOCG distributed in about 6 hectares. Heir to an important family active in politics and writing, after spending her youth between Rome and Milan, after graduating she decided to change her life by returning to her Langa origins. Her passion for wine immediately overwhelmed her; she founded everything from scratch in an old farmhouse she owned and her great curiosity led her to cultivate the Nebbiolo, Pinot Noir and Chardonnay varieties. She was a “garagist” producer in her own right, full freedom in style and without dogma with a desire to convey her ideas through her wines with a purely artisanal imprint that today are among the most sought-after in the area. A non-interventionist philosophy of absolute preservation of the ecosystem with hectares of woods famous for guarding the prized truffles while guaranteeing diversity and sanity in the vineyards, while in the cellar the work remains faithful in the fullness of tradition with long macerations and the use of large barrels. A current of thought her very much inspired by what were the “Barolo Boys” who seek not change but the novelty of an all-female return to the past by rediscovering precious secrets with the bold mindset of a “BaroloGirl” with definite ideas.
