Georg Breuer – Grauer Burgunder Rheingau – 2017
One of the Pinot varieties grown by the Breuer winery, Pinot Grigio (Grauer Burgunder) is the one that has best adapted to this area expressing excellent character in the wines favored by both cool climates and mineral-rich soils. The vineyards are located in Rudesheim on slopes in some cases very steep where slate and quartzite layers prevail with 40-year-old vines obtaining wines with good structure. Alcoholic and malolactic fermentations are carried out in small wooden barrels with the use of indigenous yeasts and subsequent aging in the same containers a few months. Remarkable label with herbaceous hints and unobtrusive toasted aromas, excellent flowing and mineral drink with an intriguing final intensity.

Description
Only in Germany can you find settlements with authentic fairy-tale dimensions, populated by centuries-old castles and manors protected by UNESCO where viticulture has been present since Roman times. The Rheingau region is the birthplace of the German Riesling first cultivated centuries ago by Cistercian monks, an area suggestive of hilly landscapes in perfect harmony with buildings crossed by the Rhine River, which is the main regulator of a climate that tends to be cold. Among the most important and emblazoned wineries emerges that of the Breuer family, founded in 1880 by Georg Breuer in the spiritual heart of German wine at the small village of Rudesheim, here are some of the most historic Riesling vineyards. The desire to produce great wines was the only thing that mattered, it was decided to start caring for the vineyards, selecting grapes at different times of the harvest and dividing the plots according to their quality, in this way the winery’s name reached the highest levels of notoriety in just a few years increased by the 1980s with the new generations on a global scale. The winery’s production comes from 30 hectares of its own property, 23 of which are in the best vineyards in Rudesheim and 7 in Reuenthal some of them classified as Grand Cru in which there are very steep slopes planted with Riesling, Pinot Grigio, Pinot Noir and Orleans. The philosophy is to operate “as little as possible” in the cellar with the use of indigenous yeasts and carrying out malolactic fermentation, aging in wooden barrels followed by long stops in the bottle. A stubbornness theirs that has enhanced and raised the reputation of an entire region.
