Dubreuil-Fontaine – Corton Charlemagne Grand Cru – 2012
Their most important white wine, Corton Charlemagne, is produced in limited quantities from a tiny plot of Chardonnay that pays tribute to the fame of this grape in Burgundy. A Grand Cru classified vineyard that revolves around the Corton hill, divided between the communes of Pernand-Vergelesses and Aloxe-Corton, where the Dubreil family manages a few fragments in the “En Charlemagne” parcel in the Pernand-Vergelesses area, which has specific characteristics of sandy and calcareous soil with 35-year-old vines. The wines from this area are never soft; in fact, the ripening process is meticulous, resulting in greater complexity and exceptional longevity thanks to their acidity and structure. Spontaneous fermentation in temperature-controlled steel vats followed by aging in oak barrels (30% new) for 12 months. A masterpiece given its exhilarating expression, notes of honey and butter overlaid with fruity hints, on the palate it is very fresh with excellent persistence, mineral but enveloping in its complexity. Allow yourself at least 10 years of waiting and you will not regret it.

Description
A domaine immersed in Burgundy, steeped in a thousand years of history, Dubreuil-Fontaine has been renowned worldwide for over 140 years for its exemplary wines of quality and provenance. Founded in 1879 in Pernand-Vergelesses in the heart of the Côte d’Or, the family has been at the helm for five generations, leaving an indelible mark over time thanks to the expansion and management of the wine-growing heritage. The turning point came in 1991 with the current owner, Christine Gruere-Dubreuil, who decided to change the mindset of both the style and philosophy of the company, placing greater emphasis on a parcel division of the vineyards, drastically reducing the number of bottles produced, and adopting the use of temperature-controlled steel tanks to increase finesse. Today, they own about 50 hectares in some of the most exclusive areas of the region where Chardonnay and Pinot Noir are classified as Premier and Grand Cru (Aloxe-Corton, Pommard, Volnay, Savigny les Beaune), establishing a sustainable ecosystem that brings out the best in the wines. In the cellar, spontaneous vinification has been adopted, with a reduction in aging times to 12-18 months and the use of overly new wood. It is a return to craftsmanship and purity of taste that has not been seen in a long time.
