Coppo – Barbera d’Asti Pomorosso – 2009
The history of Coppo winery is one of the most ancient of Italy, we are talking about 1892 when Piero Coppo founded the winery aiming at perfection in every detail and therefore he personally supervised the work in the vineyard, the phases of pressing and vinification as well as aging, in an almost maniacal search for absolute quality and without compromises.
In 1948 Canelli was devastated by a flood which forced the winery to move all the production to the cellar of the property in Via Alba and with the entrance of his son Luigi the cellars were modernized but we must wait until the 1980’s for the real turning point, inspired by the great French wines imported by their father Luigi, the four brothers imprinted their personal style in the production of Metodo Classico sparkling wines and Chardonnay. The history of Coppo winery is inextricably intertwined with the history of Piedmontese wine, in particular with the development of Canelli, homeland and capital of Italian sparkling wine, still today one of the most important Italian wine production areas. Obviously, in the total respect of the regional tradition, red wines cannot be missing and the 4 brothers decide to focus on the production of Barbera following the target of the winery, that is low yields in order to obtain great quality.
1984 is the year of the first harvest of what will become the symbolic wine of the winery, Pomorosso Barbera, produced only in some vintages, which since the beginning has been at the top of quality, an innovative wine made of grapes harvested from old vines and aged in barrique. Elegance, finesse and, above all, character. To be absolutely tried!
