Cesare Bussolo – Barbera d’Alba Roscaleto – 2020

If you want to discover a truly sensational and unobtainable bottle, try Cesare Bussolo’s Roscaleto! It is a pure Barbera that however…does not resemble anything similar produced in the Langa today, in fact blindly you would say that this wine comes from another country. The grapes come from the vineyard of the same name located at the top of the Boiolo hill in La Morra, a subzone that has always been cultivated with this variety, its peculiarity being the deep limestone and loamy soils from which long-lived and structured wines are obtained. Cesare’s philosophy is exalted to the extreme here, producing this label when the vintage allows for a total of 700 bottles, classic vineyards with high-density plantings of 8000 vines per hectare from which he harvests about 500 grams of grapes (the equivalent of one bunch) after numerous thinnings and selections. Alcoholic and malolactic fermentation are spontaneous and carried out in steel tanks, aging takes place in small barrels for 12 months without filtering before bottling. An essential expression of a wine of many complexities obtained from a true obsession with perfection and past teachings, the resemblance to French Bordeaux reds is incredible despite being worlds apart, red fruit and spice in total harmony with smooth drinking, excellent acidity and body with very long final persistence. Absolutely unparalleled by today’s standards. The first in Italy and one of 3 places to have it.

Description

Cesare Bussolo young producer, after graduating from the Enological School of Alba began his journey under the protective wing of the great Roberto Voerzio, where he still works.
He follows the same philosophy as his master, maximum care in the vineyard and absolute respect for the environment, very low yields, more than 8000 vines per hectare and little interventionism in the vineyard. Finally since 2012 he manages to fulfill his greatest dream..for the first time he produces his own wine, starting with a limited production of a very good and qualitative Barbera in the Santa Lucia vineyard in La Morra. The guy so far has come a long way, in 2014 he started producing the first bottles of Barolo in the Fossati vineyard, but today we see on the market, also a classic Barolo, a Dolcetto and a new Barbera.. “Roscaleto”! one of the best Barberas ever. A few thousand bottles produced per type of wine…but what can we say…Cesare’s wines are a great guarantee.
