Castello di Ama – L’Apparita Toscana Igt – 2016
Castello di Ama is located in the small medieval village of Ama in Gaiole in Chianti, an area rich in history where the Etruscans and Romans left the remains. An area that has always been suited for the production of wine, so much so that it was cited as “the best place in Chianti” by Grand Duke Pietro Leopoldo d’Asburgo Lorena who visited Tuscany in 1773. In the 1970s four Roman entrepreneurs saw potential in this beautiful territory and decided to renovate the historic villas of Ama and plant the vineyards on the adjacent hills. The winery covers about 80 hectares divided into several plots and hollows at an altitude of 500 meters with clay-rich soils. The turning point for the young winery took place in the 1980s thanks to the entry of the Florentine oenologist Marco Pallanti. Nowadays the winery is managed by Marco Pallanti and Lorenza Sebasti daughter of one of the four investors, where they brought to light this village, and created noteworthy wines all over the world, bringing up the Chianti appellation. Classic both in terms of art and landscape protection and qualitative for wines.
L’Apparita is one of the most mythical wines in the Italian wine scene. First pure Merlot produced in Tuscany since 1982. Recognized worldwide, thanks to its unique expression given by the clayey soils of Ama. The wine is aged in barrique for a year and a half. A real gem.
