Castellare di Castellina – I Sodi di San Niccolò – 2015

Castellare di Castellina was born thanks to Paolo Panerai with the aim of producing wines with the absolute best quality by marrying a traditional philosophy using only native vines such as Sangiovese and Malvasia Nera, but giving space to innovation! The company as we see it now was founded in the 1970s in the heart of the Chianti Classico, but the Castellare area has always been cultivated and considered one of the best for the quality of Sangiovese. In total, 80 hectares are cultivated, 33 of which are vineyards, safeguarding the environment by eliminating synthetic chemicals and the work in the vineyard is more than qualitative with very low yields (40 quintals).
Thanks to Paolo we see a rebirth of Castellare! … with the studies with Professor Attilio Scienza the first experimental vineyard of Sangiovese clones was born, while in the cellar instead space is given to the introduction of barriques following the advice of Emile Peynaud and his friend Giacomo Tachis, two of the best winemakers of the century.
In Castellare, Chianti Classico is mainly produced but the cellar’s flagship wine has always been “I Sodi di San Niccolò” (a blend of Sangiovese and Malvasia Nera grapes, aged for 30 months in barrique and 12 in bottle), so much so that it first time sixth in the top 100 ranking in Wine Spectator magazine in 1988! A perfect wine, soft, persuasive, fleshy but with a great freshness, and an enormous capacity for aging. The wines of the Castellare winery are a guarantee! They fully reflect the territory and are a standard bearer of Sangiovese!
In the 2015 vintage you will find an amazing wine. Balanced with aromas of tobacco and cherry, great freshness and depth in the mouth. To keep!
