Description

One of the pillars of Italian sparkling wine is Franciacorta, a wine-growing area that has become famous for its bubbles in northern Lombardy between the province of Brescia and Lake Iseo. Since 1870 we find the Barone Pizzini winery in Provaglio d’Iseo, which from its earliest years has distinguished itself by its approach to vine cultivation and management of its estates in a manner totally meticulous for the time. Their fame begins precisely with Baron Pizzini Piomarta in the early 1900s, a cavalry officer during the years of the Great War (he will draw in a letter to a friend the sketch of a prancing horse that will inspire Enzo Ferrari for the symbol of his car), a skilled businessman gives the winery a modern entrepreneurial dimension and together with his son Giulio they will start wine production with the first vintage in 1971. They also become the first entity in the area to produce wines from organic viticulture in 2002, but the winery goes further, building a winery built with eco-friendly architecture and enhancing the territory by introducing native grape varieties such as Erbamat again. Since 2011, it has been decided to parcel out the grapes harvested from the 30 individual vineyards in the 60 hectares of property in order to best capture the characteristics of the various soils rich in sand and limestone that also reach an altitude of 350 meters where they grow mainly Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, in the winery they use cutting-edge technologies along with a thoughtful use of wood in aging while the bubbles stay on the lees for at least 24 months. A winery steeped in history that has never lost its identity, a solid and varied production line establishing itself as one of the pioneers of the Franciacorta appellation.
