Paitin – Barbaresco Albesani – 2022
Since 2021, the Paitin winery has been producing Barbaresco from the Albesani vineyard, located on the southwestern slope of the municipality of Neive. The vineyard benefits from loamy soils with a higher percentage of sand due to its proximity to the Tanaro River, which imparts silky, balanced, and particularly elegant tannins to the Nebbiolo. The wine underwent 60 days of maceration and was aged in large oak barrels for 24 months, followed by at least one year of bottle aging before being released to the market. Production is limited to just over 3,000 bottles. A Barbaresco produced from one of Neive’s finest crus, renowned for its delicate aromas and pleasant drinkability.

Description
When talking about Paitin, one cannot help but associate this name with Barbaresco.
It is one of the wineries with the richest history, passed down for two centuries, and has owned the Serraboella vineyard since 1800, where the winery’s headquarters are still located today. This area is particularly well-suited for producing Nebbiolo for Barbaresco, precisely because it enjoys an unusual microclimate—specifically, soils rich in layers of blue limestone beneath the sand—which gives the wines significant and atypical structure and longevity. The approach in the vineyard is minimalist, relying solely on the use of copper and sulfur; in fact, since 2015, the winery has been moving toward an organic approach. In the cellar, however, the style is strictly traditional, with long aging in large barrels, respecting the natural pace of each wine. These are classic, authentic, terroir-driven wines that truly reflect the history of the Langa. They are wines that I personally find absolutely captivating for their longevity, austerity, class, and sensuality.
