Claudio Alario – Barolo Cerretta – 2022
The latest addition to the Alario portfolio is Barolo Cerretta, a clear statement that once again demonstrates this winery’s commitment to crafting a wine with a strong personality that stands apart from its peers. The Cerretta hillside is located in the northern part of Serralunga d’Alba at an elevation of around 350 meters, renowned for its limestone soils that give the wines excellent flavor intensity even in their early years. Managed by highly reputable producers, the Alario family acquired one hectare of southwest-facing vineyard; the vines are 30 years old with yields of 50–60 quintals, and the first vintage was 2022, totaling 2,500 bottles. An unmistakable style in which fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled rotary fermenters for 15 days, followed by aging for 12 months in French oak barriques (50% new) and another 12 months in 30-hectoliter Slavonian oak barrels. A new entry well worth tasting, with intense aromas of red fruit and toasty, spicy notes; on the palate, it is bold with strong tannic depth, and structure and richness are among the highlights of this bottle.

Description
The winery was founded in 1900 in Diano d’Alba, where the Alario family has been dedicated to the care and cultivation of grapevines for three generations. Initially, the grapes were intended solely for sale, but the real turning point came in 1988 with Claudio’s arrival at the winery. He contributed to the enhancement of the vineyards and immediately began bottling Dolcetto, a grape variety that represents the winery’s historical identity. The winery gradually grew and expanded into the production of Barbera and Nebbiolo wines. Yields in the vineyards are kept low to ensure the quality of their wines; innovation and tradition are characteristics we find in their wines.
