Minerdi – Barbera d’Asti – 2022

Precisely on the border between Langa and Monferrato there is the village of Castegnole Lanze, located less than 5 km from the Barbaresco area, it enjoys a unique microclimate, still benefiting from the same limestone marly soils of Langa but with the important and steep altitudes of the Asti lands. The leading grape variety in this village is Barbera, where it has always expressed more spicy notes and important acidity. The Minerdi brothers selected their father’s finest vines to produce 2,000 bottles of Barbera where the wine was vinified in steel tanks and aged in used barriques and tonneaux for about 6 months, then transferred to the bottle. It is a beautiful typical expression of Barbera, enjoying good structure, aromas of dark fruit and black pepper, and crisp acidity.

Description

Minerdi is the new project born in 2020 by brothers Umberto and Simone. The two young men, after having undertaken various winemaking experiences in famous Langa wineries, decided to recover their father’s old vineyards located between Monferrato and Langa, precisely on the border between the towns of Castagnole Lanze and Neive. A bit like in many stories of Langa and non-Langa, the father always limited himself to selling the grapes without ever having produced his own bottles, planting different varieties in the early 1990s such as Nebbiolo, Barbera, Syrah and Chardonnay. With a lot of passion and drive, the two brothers began selecting the finest plants to produce their own wines finally with their own label, enhancing each grape variety and terroir, producing just over a thousand bottles per wine type. In the winery the style is quite traditional, vinification in steel tanks and aging in medium and small used barrels. For now the total production is about 10000 bottles divided into Barbera d’Asti, Langhe Nebbiolo, Barbaresco, Syrah, Chardonnay and Timorasso. The result of each wine is extraordinary, where each label is superbly represented by enhancing the structure, cleanliness and character of each grape variety.
