Chiara Boschis – Barolo Mosconi – 2021

Mosconi where this Barolo comes from, can be described as a Grand Cru vineyard, thanks to the soils rich in clay marl and limestone it produces rather dark nebbiolo with good tannic texture. Located on the eastern slope of Monforte overlooking Serralunga, it enjoys full southern exposure and an altitude of 400 meters. The wine underwent emerged cap vinification in temperature-controlled steel tanks and then aged in small barrels for 24 months and 2 years in bottle. Taut Barolo with violet and tobacco aromas, rather astringent and deep tannins. Limited production of about 8000 bottles.

Description

Chiara Boschis is one of the most influential female producers in the Barolo wine world. She was one of the first female figures to expose herself to the market and to make the greatness of the Langa territory known to the World in the 1980s, going absolutely against the tide with respect to the canons of the time where the figure of winemaker was only up to men. His desire to get involved and be in the land was so great…thanks to his friendship with the Pira family of Barolo (where he unfortunately lacked an heir), he was finally able to fulfill his dream and produce his own wine. The winery is located right in the town of Barolo and is named after the founder E. Pira, precisely to honor him and his invaluable help.
The winery produces only 40000 bottles in total among the various Barolo, Nebbiolo and Barbera wines and manages among the best vineyards in the whole area. Chiara’s importance was because of her technique and tenacity. She was one of the first to understand how to use small barrels for aging, creating wines, but especially softer, less angular Barolos. Big, gritty wines that made history.
