Brovia – Barbera d’Alba Sori’ del Drago – 2022

A Barbera with a strong personality distinguishes that of the Brovia family, although they are more focused on Barolo they have produced a decidedly special wine. The vineyards are located in Castiglione Falletto with ages between 20/40 years old in unusual southern exposure on clay-rich soils that allow efficient phenolic ripening. The grapes are fermented in contact with the skins in steel tanks for a week and aged in them for several months, without filtration before bottling. It is certainly an atypical product, where fruity and balsamic notes predominate with touches of noble spice heralding an energetic drink of absolute freshness and silkiness on the finish. Why not give it a try?

Description

The Brovia winery was founded by grandfather Giacinto in 1863 in Castiglione Falletto, the heart of the Barolo production area, and after a succession of generations, in the present day we find Elena and her Spanish husband Alessandro Sanchez carrying on the name of this historic winery. The style is traditional, but with a modern, avant-garde twist: they use medium-large French oak barrels for aging, and organic farming in the vineyard. The winery owns and produces some of the best cru in the Barolo area, such as the Grand Cru Villero in Castiglione Falletto, famous for giving silky Barolos of unparalleled elegance, the Rocche in Castiglione Falletto famous for giving wines both elegant but also with character, the Brea Ca’ Mia the only vineyard in Serralunga d’Alba with limestone soils, and the Garblet sue in Castiglione Falletto. The peculiarity of Brovia’s wines is their constant elegance and refinement…their wines are never too hard and tannic, but silky and pleasant to drink even when young.
