Poggio di Sotto – Brunello di Montalcino – 2019

The cutting edge is definitely Brunello di Montalcino, a true elixir of quality, one of the most coveted labels among lovers of Sangiovese who want a wine absolutely out of category compared to others, slow developing but experiential.
We are in Castelnuovo dell’Abate with 30-year-old vineyards in different exposures from 200 to 400 meters above sea level, among the secrets of this land is a complex and poor Terroir rich in rock, clay and limestone on several layers.Harvesting is done manually where yields per hectare do not exceed 35 quintals given the rigorous selection of grapes, in the cellar fermentations take place in wood and cement vats with very long macerations according to tradition, aging is done for 36 months in 30 hl oak barrels with an additional 20 months in the bottle. Finally after five long years the wine that the Poggio di Sotto estate puts on the market will surprise us with its unique and inimitable style. The 2019, another vintage of wonders entered by right in the history of the appellation! The 2019, another vintage of wonders rightfully entered the history of the appellation!
We can spend many words however this Brunello deserves to be experienced first hand and for once without sharing it, the notes are between balsamic and red fruit amalgamated by multiple floral hints in disarming balance, on the palate it is supersonic in which the extractive richness is perceived, mighty structure with straight and silky tannins that increase a mineral and overall heavenly sensation from the duration of many years.
Tuscany is this, Montalcino gives us this, and this is what we want from a true Brunello!

Description

Among the innumerable and enchanting excellences of Tuscany, Montalcino will forever remain one of the must-visit destinations for lovers of good wine, a temple of Brunello made great over the years by unique figures and wineries. The Poggio di Sotto estate is located 400 meters above sea level on the southeastern slope of Mount Amiata, its birth dates back to 1989 near Castelnuovo Abate, an all-too-recent but intentional reality thanks to Piero Palmucci’s true love for wine. His work has given us one of the most important classics for Brunello di Montalcino, his wines have been from the beginning a surprise considered internationally simply perfect, embodying the soul of the territory, those wines that as soon as you drink them you are moved by the continuous emotions that assail you! One word to describe the philosophy of this intrepid man: Terroir. The grape that plays the starring role is Sangiovese, cultivated naturally following organic principles where yields never exceed 50 quintals per hectare, the vineyards located at different altitudes between 200 and 400 meters on soils rich in marl allow for the acquisition of complexity and sensational detail. In the winery, a traditional style is preferred, using wooden vats for macerations that continue over a long period and aging in large oak barrels with the sole objective of obtaining an elegant, refined and understated nectar. Since 2011, the Poggio di Sotto estate has become part of the ColleMassari group, a unique winery composed of four wineries that boasts 1,500 hectares in Tuscany and is the largest organic winery in Europe. A highly respected stable with high-ranking names of which Poggio di Sotto occupies a position of absolute prominence in the wine scene.
