Jacquesson – Champagne Cuvée n° 747

Among the 3 Champagnes offered by the Maison there is one that has won everyone over and projected the winery onto the Olympus of fame since its first vintage, the Cuvée 7**. A very famous bottle that represents a watershed between past and future in their history, a real stylistic and conceptual change implemented by the Chiquet brothers who realized that they had to enhance it no longer following the fashion of taste but of work. It is the old label “Sans année” transformed into the new 700 Series (the numbers stand for the Cuvée used), the first vintage produced in 2000 with the 728, it is the same cuvée made with the best blend of the 3 grapes each year so as to obtain each time a unique and different wine. The best grapes from the Grand and Premier Cru plots are selected, fermentations take place separately in wooden vats with indigenous yeasts including malolactic so as to increase roundness, the stay on the lees is at least 40 months with subsequent addition of Vin de reserve from previous assemblages stored in tonneaux and a very limited final dosage. Totally different than in the past, no longer the monotonous bubble but a multiplicity of nuances given mainly by the vintage year enriched with the old cuvées in addition. Impactful aromas with notes of fruit and flowers, super smooth palate of excellent freshness, crisp acidity and remarkable final mineral persistence. Interpretation of “Terroir,” what has always distinguished the winery.

Description

In wine France, there are names that have entered into legend such as Jacquesson, one of the oldest Maisons in Champagne founded in 1798 by husband and wife Claude and Memmie Jacquesson. Prestigious on a historical level, drinking one of their bubbles is an absolute spectacle, the winery is located in Dizy not far from Epernay in the geographical area called the “Heart of the Region.” Skilled producers from the beginning, they knew how to give an interpretation of the territories with unnatural familiarity gaining notoriety and success, a know-how inherited by their son Adolphe who took it to the next level. Through his studies he proved to be a genuine innovator and forerunner of the Modern era. He established the perfect amount of sugar so as to obtain in the refermentation the right atmospheric pressure (24 grams for 6 atmospheres), he introduced in the vineyards together with Dr. Guyot the row system so as to better control yields and quality, he adopted a system of washing the bottles before their use becoming also the first to patent and adopt the Muselet and the Plaquette that is the famous cage with capsule that blocks the cork. In the second half of the 19th century it was among the 5 most important Maisons of the time until an abrupt decline between management and changes of ownership that caused it to fall into oblivion that ended in 1974 with its acquisition by the Chiquet family. With the brothers Jean-Hervè and Laurient there was the definitive revival deciding to limit production in order to maintain high quality and exclusivity, a choice that led to having only 3 Champagnes including a Millesimato, a Rosé and a Cuvée without vintage that will be replaced by the famous 700 Series. The winery today has estate vineyards distributed between the Cotes des Blancs and the Vallée de la Marne classified Grand and Premier Cru growing the 3 main varieties with a low environmental impact, their style is very traditional with fermentations in wood including malolactic, use of Vin de reserve and minimal addition of sulfur to fully reflect the vintage. Jacquesson remains one of the most sensational vignerons for one of the smallest Maisons in existence.
