Bibi Graetz – Casamatta Isola del Giglio Bianco Toscana – 2023

Casamatta is among the simplest labels in the selection obtained by blending different white grape varieties with the intention of extrapolating the atypical side of Tuscany. A blend of 60% Ansonica 30% Vermentino and 10% Trebbiano picked from younger vineyards located on the island of Giglio. The grapes are gently pressed where then the must ferments spontaneously with indigenous yeasts from the grapes in steel tanks, aging in the same containers for several months. A Mediterranean white with a pleasant drinkability, aromatic hints of good freshness with light, immediate sips and a rich savory texture.

Description

Symbol of what was the Italian Renaissance, Florence is the capital of Art, and it is here that amidst centuries of history we find the eclectic Bibi Graetz. Born and raised in the beautiful Villa Aurora next to the Castello di Vincigliata in the center of Fiesole, we cannot call him an entrepreneur but definitely a visionary, the son of artists but with an innate lifelong passion for good wine so much so that he abandoned his art studies. Initially it was a path of continuous progress and development of his knowledge about the world of wine, until in 2000 fate allowed him to realize this dream of his to produce his first label. It was the beginning of an emblematic career at the helm of one of the most creative wineries in Tuscany and Italy, in just under 20 years Bibi has managed to build a globally recognized winery thanks to his continuous pursuit of excellence through Sangiovese, so beloved and considered by him to be the most noble grape variety of the peninsula. His wines are unique and characterized by complex aromas as well as a palate that is always very elegant, the winery cultivates about 80 hectares of vines scattered throughout Tuscany preferring only indigenous varieties such as Sangiovese, Colorino and Canaiolo with a natural heritage of many 80/100 year old vines. He was also the one who recovered Ansonica, a white grape variety directly from Giglio Island understanding its potential for the future where together with Vermentino he produces interesting white labels. All these natural components together with his working dedication still leads to the creation of spectacular bottles, he selects only sublime clusters so as to get more extraction in the vinifications that are carried out in steel tanks or wooden vats, while the refinements are carried out in barriques. Bibi is a true artist with the sole objective of making works of art from wines with a strong territorial imprint.
