Gian Luca Colombo – Barbera d’Alba Superiore – 2021

It can be said that this version of Barbera is very tempting to try, not only for lovers of full-bodied, round wines but especially for the excellent propensity for aging it possesses. The vineyards are all located in Verduno with an average age of 20 years, the easy exposure and loamy soils contribute to obtaining very rich clusters, they are vinified with indigenous yeasts in steel tanks for 16 days and then aged in heavily used barriques for 12 months. Doing neither clarification nor filtration results in a wine with a good imprint, intense nose of red fruit that harmonizes with a warm and deep drink.

Description

A true man of Langa who grew up in contact with a reality of great winemaking tradition, Gianluca Colombo became yet another enthusiast who soon made it a full-time job and a new brand of life. After graduating in oenology in Alba and consulting at various wineries, his winery saw the light in 2011 in Roddi together with his wife where he focused on the Pinot Noir variety as the start of his project. From a purely agricultural mood and with limited production, his wines are very territorial where respect for the environment in its diversity is at the base following a philosophy without preconceptions where nature and its rhythms count. In fact, the wine itself presents its own evolution where vinifications change every year, no clarifications and filtrations are made, there is no predominant use of wood but it is only interpretation of the succession of events. Great care and commitment to obtain a wine that reflects grape variety, terroir and vintage fruit of one of the many stories of Langa.
