Francesco Rinaldi e Figli – Barolo Cannubi – 2019

Cannubi is the vineyard that surely represents the Francesco Rinaldi winery. The vineyard is located around the estate, which is considered the most famous of all Barolo crus thanks to the mixed geological composition of two different formations where we find the union of both clay, limestone and sandy soils, giving the nebbiolos balanced sensations between tannin and acidity. The winery owns about 2.5 hectares in this parcel, where the plants have an average age of 45 years. The wine did part of the winemaking in steel and cement tanks, then aged in 5,000-liter oak barrels for 30 months. For me, Rinaldi Francesco’s Cannubi represents the true typicity of this vineyard, a complex wine with ample nuances of balsamic and fruity notes, a lingering finish with crisp tannins without ever lacking elegance and sensuality.

Description

There are still some wineries in Langa where time seems to have stopped at the last century, where you can still breathe that genuineness and traditionality where wines are always produced with the same humility and passion. The Francesco Rinaldi e Figli winery represents all this in my opinion, established in 1870 in the historic farmstead located on the hilltop of the Cannubi vineyard, it has always specialized in the production of typical Piedmontese red wines such as Barolo, Nebbiolo, Barbera and Dolcetto, still partly vinified in cement tanks and aged in huge oak barrels. The winery manages 11 hectares located among the best Barolo parcels, such as Cannubi, Brunate, Rocche dell’Annunziata, Vignane, Sarmassa and Codana.
