Olivier Leflaive – Meursault 1er Cru Les Genevrieres – 2007

The AOC Meursault appellation, is considered globally to be the most aromatic and mineral version of the Chardonnay grape variety because of the composition of soils rich in limestone and magnesium that give the wines unparalleled longevity. The grapes come from one of the best Premier Cru vineyards, Les Genevrières, behind the village of Meursault, the vines range over 40 years of age and are in a suitable southeastern exposure where the soils are very stony. Harvesting is by hand and the grapes are pressed immediately so as to preserve their integrity, alcoholic fermentation in steel tanks and malolactic fermentation in wood followed by aging for 17 months in oak barrels, 30% of which are new. A bottle that knows how to combine different sensations in the most complete way possible, finesse and power, where on the nose it expresses almond notes then on the palate it remains concentrated and soft sensing in the finish a long persistence. Waiting is the secret to fully discover this wine.

Description

We are in the village of Puligny-Montrachet, a tiny hamlet, but of absolute importance, here are the most exclusive and important GRAND CRUs in all of Burgundy for the Chardonnay grape variety.
The historic Leflaive family, which has always owned vineyards, was also born here. In the 1980s Olivier Leflaive, had a desire to have his own label and winery, so he began to select the best plots and then produce great wines.
The Leflaive winery today makes wine from 120 hectares of vines including 17 of its own divided among the best villages of Puligny-Montrachet, Chassagne-Montrachet and Meursault, in Chablis and the Côte Chalonnaise.
The choice of grape purchasing is highly selected thanks to historic partnerships with various suppliers, where special attention is paid to vineyard work by encouraging biodynamic viticulture.
One of the world’s leading brands of Burgundy wines.
