Paolo Conterno – Barolo Ginestra – 2016

Believed to be one of Barolo’s premier quality crus, the Ginestra hillside is a combination of limestone marls and clays that together with steep slopes in excellent exposure result in structured, long-lived wines. Limited production, vines over 35 years old facing south at the top of the hill where there is favorable grape ripening due to temperatures and high solar influence. Carefully selected grapes are vinified in contact with the skins in steel tanks for 18-25 days, after malolactic fermentation there is aging in large 35 HL French oak barrels for 36 months before bottling. This turns out to be a wine of fine power, heady in its aromas of ripe fruit and spice, balanced on the palate with a gritty structure and intense tannins. A wine of memorable vintage and forward-looking longevity.

Description

If you are a lover of history and good wine, among the names of the Langa you cannot fail to mention Paolo Conterno, one of the oldest and most excellent wineries in the production of Barolo. Established back in 1886 when Paolo decided to dedicate his life to the cultivation of vines in Monforte at Ginestra, producing his first bottles. A true forerunner in terms of quality by recognizing and subdividing the plots of his land by exposure and soil according to grape variety (Nebbiolo, Barbera, Dolcetto). A family that has reached the 4th generation managed today by Giorgio Conterno in which traditions from the vineyard to the winery have never been neglected, but on the contrary, accompanied by modern techniques with the utmost respect for the environment. In just over 10 hectares under vine, majestic wines are produced in which the concept of Barolo always aspires to perfection according to past teachings, i.e. cluster thinning, submerged cap vinification and aging in large used barrels. Authentic wine artisans.
