Guido Porro – Barolo Vigna Rionda – 2015

We are in one of the most important vineyards of the entire Barolo area, where majestic wines of superb quality can be produced with an incredible aging potential. A cru in which Porro family owns some vineyards since a short time, with vineyards having a perfect south-west exposure and rooted in calcareous/rocky soils typical of the area. After the selection of the best bunches, they are fermented in steel tanks without adding yeasts and then undergo malolactic fermentation and aging in large Slavonian oak casks for 30 months before bottling. A wine which represents in the collective imagination the tannic Barolo par excellence, with complex scents of underbrush which evolve over time into licorice and tobacco, a powerful structure accompanied by a bursting and very fine tannin. A bottle emblematic of style.

Description

There is a lot of history and luck for winemakers who own vineyards in the lands of Barolo, in particular if they are located in Serralunga d’Alba, an area famous for the structure of Nebbiolo. Porro’s family has been living there for 5 generations, they have always been dedicated to the production of wine, first by selling bulk wine and then, since 1996, with Guido Porro who, thanks to the teachings of his father Giovanni, increased his skills as an enologist and improved his techniques. A property spread over 8 hectares in some of the most important crus such as VignaRionda, Lazzarito and Gianetto with enviable positions south-west/south-east that allow a perfect maturation of Nebbiolo, Barbera and Dolcetto grapes in a suitable microclimate. In a context where nothing is taken for granted, a meticulous work of soil care is carried out with eco-friendly products in order to increase the quality levels in a natural way. All this is increased by thinning and selections in the vineyard continued in the cellar with racking and aging in large barrels as per tradition for a not high annual production. Secrets and passions distinguish so much commitment with the only goal of giving “Barolo color emotions”.
