Ca’ Rome’ – Barbaresco Rio Sordo Riserva – 2013
Ca’ Rome’ was born in the 80s in Barbaresco from the passion for the land of Romano Marengo, thanks to his thirty years of experience in the wine industry, he decided to pursue his dream and build his own reality. This was made possible thanks to the help of his wife Olimpia, and their children. Now the winery is run by his son Giuseppe who personally follows with great technique every process from vineyard to cellar, of course always listening to his father’s wise advices. The philosophy of the winery is to produce genuine wines, supporting the vineyard with organic products, low yields in order to make the energy of the plant concentrate all on the bunch and in the cellar they use racking and filling to clean the wines. In total the winery cultivates 5 hectares of vineyards divided between Barbaresco and Serralunga producing clean and traditional wines, just to exalt the two different territories.
Barbaresco Rio Sordo comes from the vineyard having the same name, the most important one for the Marengo family. Located under the municipality of Barbaresco, it has always enjoyed an excellent reputation for its position almost all south and the mixed soils of clay and sand giving elegant but dark wines with full tannins. In this case the wine is aged for 24 months in large casks and in barrique plus 10 months in bottle. Great wine with enormous aging potential. Best seller.
The 2013 vintage took us back to the past, when Nebbiolo was harvested late in October, but it was precisely this delay that allowed the wine to reach an excellent concentration of aromas, coloring matter and sugars. In short, a structured and long-lived vintage, we can say without any doubt “classic”!
Productive Notes:Maceration on skins for 15 days. The wine ages for 36 months in oak casks followed by about 6 months in bottle before release.
