Vigneti Massa – Monleale – 2010
Vigneti Massa is an absolutely unconventional winery, led by eclectic winemaker with an independent and artistic soul Walter Massa. Since the 1970’s Walter took over the historical family winery, used to the production of Barbera, realizing he could invest on a grape almost disappeared, but pretty unique for its complexity and longevity: Timorasso. He can be defined as the father of this grape, by enhancing and rediscovering a little known wine area such as the Tortonese hills located between Monferrato and Lombardy. He planted many plots of Timorasso, such as Costa del Vento, Sterpi, Montecitorio becoming symbolic bottles in the world of wine. Besides Timorasso, Barbera, Croatina and Freisa are cultivated. The style of production is to make wines as in the past, respecting the vineyard, but also in the cellar they use indigenous yeasts and long maceration on the skins.
Rosso Monleale 2010 is a great wine produced with Barbera grape. It is aged in wood casks for 24 months, plus six months in steel tanks and six months in bottle. It shows a full bodied wine, with notes of black cherry and slightly toasted, full, persuasive, with great freshness. Great evolutionary capacity.
