Poderi Luigi Einaudi – Barolo Bussia – 2015

Podere Luigi Einaudi is the historic winery founded by the first President Luigi Einaudi in the municipality of Dogliani. Despite his political activity in Rome, he never missed any harvest, and I entrust the management of his farms and vineyards to sharecroppers.
He was one of the first to focus everything on agriculture, realizing that he could lift his Piedmont home from the crisis, employing local people to manage his lands. From his death, the winery was managed by his children and grandchildren, up to today with the presence of his nephew Matteo Sardagna Einaudi. The winery has made history for having aimed high and brought the typical Dogliani blend to the world: Dolcetto!
With the new generations, farms have been bought in the Barbaresco and Barolo area to produce the renowned and austere Nebbiolo in its various forms of denomination. The style in the cellar is quite traditional, leaving room for some avant-garde techniques for cleaning and making wine, such as temperature-controlled concrete tanks.
Barolo Bussia comes from the homonymous vineyard located in the municipality of Monforte d’Alba, one of the reference crus in the Barolo area. This vineyard is one of the latest purchases of the Einaudi family, in fact it was produced for the first time in 2015. The soils in this vineyard are rich in clay, giving the Barolos more complexity and fuller and spicier flavors. The wine is aged for 24 months in medium to large oak barrels. A complex wine, dusty notes on the nose, pleasantness and roundness in the mouth with a nice final tannin. Great evolutionary capacity.
